Maybe I am just an idiot, but I can't get to the setup advanced section of my petine for anything. I read the directions in the manual but when I double click on the dial I can't get the dot to move or the 1st character to change. It just seems to change the volume. The system is brand new rev 73. |

Are you making sure the music is stopped when attempting to enter the advanced setup menus?
What feature are you trying to change? |

Good.
Let's assume for instance, that you are listening to a CD.
Stop the music by either hitting stop on the remote, or by hitting the data dail once.
Now double click the dial.
The display should look like this:
S.cd
(it would be S.cf if playing from the flashcard, S.in if playing from the internal music, etc)
Now hit the dial once This should cause the dot to start blinking. This means turning the dial now, will allow you to scan through the various advanced user-options. Page 18 of the online user manual, gives a good explanation how this works, and a run-down of what the occasionally odd looking sets of characters mean that you will be sorting through.
The option you are looking for, I believe should come up as:
c.St
Hit the dial once, stop the dot's flashing. Turn to the right so that you see:
cSt.
Hit the dial once again to start the flashing. Turn the dial until the display reads:
cSL. (flashing dot)
Double click. Your option should now be saved. This procedure is detailed in page 31 of the online manual.
It sounds as if you might have double clicked, at a point where you needed to single click. (or visa-versa) Accessing the various menus and options does take a bit of getting used to, but it definitely gets easier with a bit of time. |

| Great. It does take some getting used to. My display results don't always match the manual and to end and reset I need to press the dial and turn it clockwise at the same time, not double click. Can you tell me how to adjust the volume to the headphones and/or make them stereo from the PNOscan input? The volume that I am getting in my headphones comes through one channel and is not very loud. |

I did get a set of mono headphones from Radio Shack and a headphone amplifier and the volume did improve. I will look on the internet and see if there is anything better to make the sound improve. Thanks for your help.
I am now trying to figure out how to format and transfer MIDI files to a 4GB CF card. Unfortunately, it gives me an Er 1 when I attempt this. |

While I've generally had good luck with most CF cards, the manual does mention several brands that work.
Right now, I'm not sure if they support (yet!) any of the 4 GIG cards.
To be honest, if you're using the CF cards for MIDI files, as I do---then look for the smallest capacity (cheapist!) card you can find that is on the list of cards known to work. Every so often, when I'm at a CVS, I ask the people behind the counter what the lowest capacity SanDisk CF cards they have in stock are... Typically they're blowing them out for around $10 a piece. (often less)
My flashcard, with over 3,900 MIDI files on it, is using only 64 meg of space on the card!
I have heard it mentioned before that the headphone outputs, need some amplification. I think believe tech support does recommend turning the headphone volume all the up on the Petine. (sounds as though you've done this already) I don't recall encountering a problem with the sound only coming from one channel though... Has the new headphone set resolved that issue?? (i own a pair of rather 'finicky' headphones myself...)
You could try QRS tech support at 1-800-247-6557 to see if they have further suggestions. I'd like to hear what they have to say. |

Petine Version 79 or lower do not contain the means to read a card which is FAT32.
Any Compact Flash lower than 4gb could be formatted to FAT(16) which should work fine in all versions. Or if you upgrade to Version 80 it will allow these FAT32 formatted cards to be read. At this time, anything over 4 gb would be FAT32.
If you need to update you can either download the update from the qrsmusic.com support (petine/ancho) section then burn to cd unzipped or you can call and request one.
If you want to know more about what FAT is you can see a complete history behind the file format here:
